Mr. Bartis was one of my favorite teachers at School 18 in Troy. He was a motivational teacher, coach and mentor. I always enjoyed seeing him at School 18 after I graduated. He inspired me to pursue a degree in physical education which I did in 1972. I went on to have a long career in education in part because of his encouragement.
May God Bless him and his family.

Our sincere condolences on your loss. Dick Bartis was well known as being a great guy. He taught swimming at Babcock Lake when my husband and his brothers were in the program there and he paid my son Sean a great compliment was he was moving from elementary school into the middle school. He called me and asked if I was going to let Sean swim varsity the next year as his plan was to leave as THS swim coach, but he would stay one more year if he could have a chance to coach him. Sean was too immature to start varsity in 6th grade and I explained that to your dad. He understood and wished us well. I always wished that Sean could have swum with him but it was not to be. To those of you who know me from work I would like to say what a wonderful job your parents did raising you. I will pray for your family. Thanks for letting me go on and on

Dear Family of Richard L. "Dick" Bartis,
I am truly sorry for your loss. I can't imagine what you must be feeling right now. In times like these, I always meditate on these two scriptures which are Revelation 21:4 and Acts 24:15. Revelation 21:4 states "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away" and Acts 24:15 states "and I have the same hope in God as these men themselves have, that there will be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked". God promises us that one day we will see our dead loved ones again and anything that causes us pain and suffering will be vanquished. There is a website that I would like to recommend and that is JW.org. On the website, you could find out more information about God's heartwarming promises for the future. Once again I am really sorry for your loss and I hope you can find comfort in these words.
Love,
Sara

It is with sadness that I pass on my deepest condolences to the Bartis family. While I didn’t have the opportunity to meet or know his family, Mr Bartis was a large part of my adolescent life. I have many many great memories of him as my THS swim coach and as a mentor. His famed “bumble bee” story is well known to all us swimmers, and I suspect many others too. He inspired us every practice, every meet. And he taught me what spelling “American” really meant. May God bless Mr Bartis and may he rest peacefully. Thank you Mr Bartis for being such a great and positive influence on me. Tom Casey (Class of 1978)

My condolences to Jane and all of the rest of the family.
Dick was a part of my life for so many years, from 4th grade gym class at School 18, swim coach at Troy High, and colleague as a swimming official for so many years. He was a real mentor for me, and. in a real time of change in the sports world, he was a trailblazer in the world of gender equality in allowing my sister to participate on the boys swim team when there was no girls program available.
My family will always have fond memories of Dick.
