Obituary of Harris S. Lindsay

Harris S. Lindsay, son of the late Harris and Beatrice Lindsay and husband of Peggy Beggs Lindsay for 62 years died on January 15 after a 2 1/2 year battle with colon cancer. He was the father of Craig Lindsay of Rotterdam, NY, Ann (Richard) Brown of Cooperstown, NY, Eric Lindsay of Atlanta, GA; grandfather of Allyson, Scott, Steven, Emily, Abigail, Lindsay and great grandfather of Noelle;; Uncle of Deone, Nanette, Liane, Paul, Alan, Alex and the late Robert Ward.  He was predeceased by his sisters Suzanne Ward, and Nancy Terrio.

 

His career started as advertising manager for Milliken  Woolens in Manhattan and continued in various retail positions in Newark, NJ, Rutland, VT, Latham, NY and Colonie, NY.  

 

He was a graduate of Ft. Edward High School (class of 1950), Mt. Hermon School (class of 1951), and Williams College (class of 1955), where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. After graduation he taught for a year at  Great Meadow Correctional Facility in Comstock, NY  and then served in the U S Army for three years.

 

As  a child he sang solo at church and at local functions. At Williams College, he  was a member of both the glee club and the choir. He also was an avid gardener.

One of his greatest pleasures was working out at the gym and competing in Monster  Bench competitions in Cooperstown.

A memorial service will be held in his honor post-COVID-19.
