Obituary of Russell O. Heggen
Russell O. Heggen, 75, of Vosburgh Road, passed away on Saturday July 1, 2023 at his residence. He was born on May 14, 1948 in Troy and was the son of the late Birger Arthur Heggen Sr. and Eileen Russell Heggen, Sr. He was a graduate of Cohoes High School, HVCC in Troy, SUNY Albany and the Cornell School of Business and Management and Accounting. He retired as the supervisor of Postal Operations for the United States Post Office after 36 years of service. He retired in 2003 from the Waterford Post Office. Following retirement, Russell worked for the Fairways of Halfmoon and Eagle Crest Golf Club in Clifton Park. He enjoyed golfing, softball and was a car enthusiast. During high school, Russell was an all-around athlete, playing basketball and baseball. He had been an umpire for women’s softball. Russell was a US Army veteran, having served during the Vietnam War, being honorably discharged in 1969.
He was the beloved husband of Andrea Benamati Heggen, whom he married on Jan. 6, 2006. Their love was 36 years strong. He was the devoted father of Aaron Heggen (Corinna) of Clifton Park, Adam Heggen (Lindsey Kirk) of Schenectady, Amy Heggen (Todd Prusky) of N. Greenbush, Shawn Mosca of Sunrise Beach Village, TX, Kevin Mosca (S. Franky Halloran) of Chicago, IL, Stephanie Fogarty (Frank) of Clifton Park and Robert Skibinski (Billy Dibble, MD) of Syracuse; brother of Birger Arthur Heggen, Jr., Judith Rytell (Ed); grandfather of Miles and Isabella Heggen, Zachary Layh and Arilyn Horton and Jacob Fogarty; also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, July 10, 2023 at the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Rt. 9 Clifton Park, NY 12065.
Interment with full military honors will be on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at 11:30 a.m. at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY.
