Obituary of Ruth M. Shaw

Ruth M. Shaw, 88, of Brunswick and formerly of Cohoes, peacefully entered into eternal life surrounded by her family at home on Sunday, June 23, 2024.

Born in Troy, NY, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Bertha Wagar DeFreest and the beloved wife since 1952 of the late Bernard T. Shaw who passed away on May 27, 2005. She was educated at the Powers School, Knickerbacker Middle School and Troy High School.

Mrs. Shaw was a homemaker.

She loved playing BINGO! She had been a communicant of the former St. Marie’s Church and Holy Trinity Church, both in Cohoes.

Devoted mother of Mary (Carl) Edwards of Cohoes, Thomas (Lisa) Shaw of Cohoes, David (Jacqueline) Shaw of Brunswick and Robert (John Thornton) Shaw, dear sister of Dorothy Smith of South Carolina and the late Doris Paglia, Betty Ratigan, Grace Radliff, Shirley Minnafield, Caroline Simpson, Irene Sousis, Harrison DeFreest and Clayton DeFreest, also survived by 9 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held on Friday morning at 9:30 a.m. at the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., 565 Fourth Avenue (corner of 115th Street in Lansingburgh), Troy, NY 12182.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Interment will be held in St. Jean’s Cemetery, Troy.
