Obituary of Jonathan W. McCormick

Jonathan W. McCormick, age 34, passed away Thursday, January 16, 2025 at his home.  Jonathan was born April 19, 1990 to Deborah McCormick, Waterford, NY and Daniel (Dee) McCormick, Charleston, South Carolina.  Jon graduated from Lansingburgh High School in 2008 before attending Clinton Community College for one year and then joining the Marine Corp from 2009-2017 and becoming a Automotive Maintenance Technician.  He was stationed in Iwakuni, Japan and Afganistan (USMC-11).  After being honorably discharged in 2013 with his rank as corporal, he received Automotive and Welding degrees from Hudson Community College. 

In addition to his parents, Jonathan is also survived by his wife, Samantha McCormick, and their children Jasper, Amelia, Eleanor, and their unborn son, Atlas William.  He also leaves behind Blake, his daughter from his first marriage to Meghan McCormick, a stepson, Maximilian Sanderson, along with his beloved service dog Zoey.  Additionally, Jon is survived by brothers Christopher (Jamie) and Nathan, and his nephew, Jordy, and niece, Charley.  He also leaves behind his grandfather, Robert Snyder, Sr., and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Jonathan is predeceased by paternal grandparents, Daniel and Julia McCormick, maternal grandmother, Helen Snyder, his Uncle Mike McCormick, and cousin, Jared McCormick.

Jon was previously a volunteer fire fighter for the Clifton Park Fire Department, which he was very passionate about.  While in school, Jon took part in school plays and also played an array of youth sports, but his favorite was lacrosse, which he helped petition to bring to Lansingburgh High.  Jon also loved to down hill ski.  Jon and his wife lived in Elko, Nevada for a time, and had recently purchased land in Maine where they were building their homestead, which Jon was extremely passionate about.

Jon belonged to a support group through the Albany Vet Center.  Special thanks to the members of the American Legion in Houlton, ME and the wonderful people from the Albany VA Center for all of their support for Jon during his times of need, in addition to the help and support they’ve provided to his family.  

Family and friends can gather to celebrate Jon’s life at the Clifton Park Elks, 695 Mac Elroy Rd, Ballston Lake, NY 12019 on January 25th at 1:00pm with military honor color guard beginning at 1:30pm sharp.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Samuel Stratton VA Medical Center.
