Sister Char was a gift to St. Rose, St. Catherine's Center for Children and the Church of St. Vincent De Paul. She was a light wherever she served teachers, children with special needs, families and the wider community. I will miss her wit and wisdom. May she rest in peace.

Looks like there is a party in heaven as you join those who passed before you. Always a smile on your face and a great friend to my Aunt Mary. Xoxo

I first learned of Sister Charleen back in the late 70’s as I was interested in becoming a police officer, but has a severe stuttering problem. I attended one of her Wednesday night group meetings and eventually started one – on – one therapy sessions with one of her students. Over several months I learned new techniques that enabled me to rethink and/or relearn speech patterns that enabled me to learn to speak more coherently and eventually I learned how to talk effectively so that I was able to pursue my dream of being a police officer. I also was able to advance my career in the Army Reserve to retirement after 24 years. I attempted to reach out to the catholic community in recent years to try and contact Sister Charleen to say “THANK YOU” for what she and her students did for me long ago, but I was unable to accomplish this due to privacy restrictions. Now she has passed . . .
My condolences to her family are now in order. She was a great person and I am so thankful for her assistance in my struggle’s years ago.

My condolences on your loss. I knew Sister Char from 1976 when I attended my first Stuttering Counsel on Madison Avenue at the CSR. I was struggling with stuttering and in Sister Char I found a caring person offering a safe and supportive place to learn and grow while stretching my self imposed limits because of my speech. With Sister Char's encouragement and sometimes nudge I pushed myself beyond my level of comfort into new areas where I learned I was capable of much more than I was imagining. She had a profound influence on my life and the lives of many others who came through her program at the CSR. I will be forever grateful for her caring and support. We were in contact until her retirement from the College. She was a very special person who shared her many gifts. Sincerely, Grace
