Obituary of Inge Ruth Parlo
Please share a memory of Inge to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Inge Ruth Parlo, 65, of Clifton Park, died peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on November 20,2016 after a 2 ½ year battle with cancer.
She was born on June 27, 1951 to Estonian parents in Schenectady, NY and lived out her childhood in Guilderland, NY along with her two sisters.
A graduate of Guilderland Central High School, she received her B.A. from University at Albany and Masters degree in Public Communications from Newhouse School of Communications at Syracuse University.
Most recently a Congressional Affairs Specialist at FEMA, Albany, her professional career as corporate communications specialist included positions at Masto Public Relations, Latham, The Eddy in Troy, Thermo Electron, Waltham, MA, Albany International Corp. and Parsons Child and Family Services, Albany. Her talent in communications began as a young girl with the gift of writing, conversation and interest in people, developing into the dependable, honest, hardworking adult she became.
In her private life, Inge was a master planner, organizer and researcher in all her endeavors. She created her own “arboretum” of trees and shrubs on her 5-acre property along with a prolific vegetable garden. Starting from scratch, she planted and built every feature on her property with her own manual labor. She transformed and maintained her 174 year old farmhouse meticulously. Inge was an excellent cook who prepared special meals for her extended family, especially at holiday gatherings, and to all her guests. She managed her life with careful frugality. Her greatest accomplishment as a single parent was to raise her son, her biggest pride and joy. With the prognosis of cancer, she managed to fulfill many goals, particularly a trip to Estonia with her son and daughter-in-law. Inge loved nature and her long daily walks with longtime friend Paul Brederman, characterizing her healthy lifestyle.
Inge is predeceased by her parents Erik and Melanie Parlo. She is survived by her son, Conor Parlo Simon (Cailee) of Fort Collins, Colorado, sister Anne Parlo (Leagh Kendal) of Banff, Alberta, sister Aino Parlo (Dave Clement) of Liverpool, NY and nephews Bryon Parlo (Courtney), Tim Kendal, Tory Kendal (Jessica), Trevor Clement, niece Erika Clement, great nephews Erik Parlo and Ethan Parlo, and great niece, Kylie Parlo.
A private memorial service will be held by the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Animal Protective Foundation, 53 Maple Avenue, Scotia, NY 12302
