I am deeply sad by the news of prof. Paulson’s passing . Prof. Paulson was my PhD thesis advisor from 1991-1994 and had been my lifetime mentor and personal friend since then.
I was expecting sometime to revisit Troy RPI campus, and to revisit his home in Clinton Park New York.
Rest in Pace, Professor Paulson, my daughter Tina and I will miss you deeply!

Dr. Paulson was a professor of mine when I was an MBA student at RPI in 1991. I thought very highly of his intellectual capacity on many subjects, and enjoyed his class so much, as well as his friendly and laidback personality that I asked him to be a member of my doctoral committee when completing my PhD. He graciously accepted and I appreciated his support throughout my studies. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. Rest in Peace, sir. You will be missed by many whose lives crossed yours in the academic community.

I am so sorry to hear of Dr Paulson's passing. He was such gentle man, keen mind, sharp wit and a passion to help us learn. I think i took ever single class that he taught at RPI (usually starting at 6:30 and ending at 9:30). I remember in my junior year, ine student always got up and left the class 30 minutes before it was over. After the 3rd or 4th time, Dr Paulson (clearly annoyed), asked him if there was a problem. The student explained to the whole class, that he was sorry but he had to leave to get to work. I remember seeing his face just change from annoyance to compassion.. not everyone at RPI had parents bankrolling them for their education
I also remembered him questioning me on my 'creative' ideas to get the best return possible on one his exams. I gave him the answer that he expected us to give and then provided a much more creative solution of investing in NY subway tokens.I wasn't the most confident student, but he encourage me to challenge what I was taught, to be creative and to develop the hard skills to validate my analysis. So many students must have similar memories.
I am so sorry for his passing. May he rest in peace.

I was introduced to Al Paulson 14 years ago in his Ballston Lake home while visiting for Travers Weekend. I was greeted with a warm smile which was followed by an overwhelmingly crushing handshake. If you ever shook Al’s hand, you know what I mean. That weekend became the beginning of a yearly pilgrimage for many years with many memories.
To say Al was unique is an understatement. He was the most fascinating person I’ve ever met. There wasn’t a topic of discussion I can think of where he didn’t have a brilliantly bizarre takeaway. During my stays at the house, I’ve eaten the strangest smelling cheeses, drank the best tasting wines and have been offered the most unique foods. My favorite being a duck egg.
I’ll remember sharing dinners together, talking baseball, listening to his stories and eating the most oysters anyone could imagine eating in one sitting. Most of all I’ll remember his generosity, kindness and love for his family and those close to his family.
I feel blessed for the fond memories I’ve shared with Al, Catherine and the Paulson family since that first day 14 years ago.
Al will be missed by many. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Paulson family and everyone else close to him.
Viso gero Big Al.

I had the very good fortune to work with Albert on an EPRI research project many years ago. He was one of the funniest and smartest people I ever knew, with a remarkable European family history. I went hunting wild mushrooms and asparagus with him, we rescued some huge carp trapped by flooding in pools beside the river, we mutually sought new abusive epithets for his K-car, admired his collection of crocks for making sauerkraut, and enjoyed hilarious dinners with his dearly beloved Catherine. Al was a really wonderful guy, I am dismayed to lose him.
